I don't mean an epic storyline, I mean taking you to places which are Gothic in proportions and Wagnerian in scope. Jedi Knight is one of those games. In the first level, you are in a bar which resides in the center of Nar Shadaa, the Vertical City, a name which is well-justified when you see visuals of it. You literally stand on the edge of a 1,000 meter cliff at one point! The immense scope doesn't stop at that one level, either. Several places are just as vast, such as Baron's Hed, which has a building in it which is so tall that it takes all of ten seconds to fall from it(if you use the flying cheat and go to the top of it). You also experience caverns which could comfortably enclose an aircraft carrier, aqueducts suspended above a Grand Canyon, and a fuel station that could have been one of Exxon's major oil reserves. When 3D graphic accelerator cards first came out, this was the very first game I played after installing my shiny new Voodoo 3DFX card.Sure, the graphics look dated, but when I first played this game it was cutting edge technology. I'm a big-time Star Wars fan as well as a nostalgia nut. I still go back and play this game to relive the good old days. If there's ever a "History of Gaming" museum, this game deserves a place in it. It represents an evolutionary step in both graphics and gameplay technology. If there are any Star Wars fans who haven't played this game yet (I can't imagine there are many out there) you definitely owe it to yourself to pick it up. Five stars without hesitation. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: = Fun: This review is from: Stars Wars: Jedi Knight - Dark Forces II & Mysteries of the Sith (CD-ROM) I can't even remember the first time I finished this game. But I am going to review it because not only is it one my favorite games of all time but it still holds up as a fantastic game so many years later. Even if the graphics are dated you have to appreciate what the developers had done at the time.I happen to be a pretty big Star Wars fan as are many others. I still remember seeing screenshots of this game on the internet and being amazed at the graphics of the time with a "3D accelerator" as they were referred to in those days. This is the game that made me go out and purchase my very first graphics card, a Voodoo 3D Extreme. At the time the 3D graphics that most gamers, well at least myself and my friends, were used to seeing were either from the Sega Saturn or the original Playstation. I had no idea that a PC with a graphics card could produce visuals like this. And that is when I fell in love with Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. This was the first Star Wars... Read more |
