I first bought this router to use as an access point for my comcast cable internet. It worked fine and was quick to set up. You just need to plug everything in and then go to 192.168.0.1 and it should bring you to the set up page. If it doesn't, try resetting the router with a paperclip (holding it down for 15 sec or when the power light starts blinking) release and retry. Clearing you cookies and cache helps too.

After using it as an AP for over a year my cousin gave me the newest dlink router dir-655 and it was far superior in range so I swapped it out. Now my family who lives in an apartment above me with a whole floor and thick walls separating us wants to share my cable internet since it's faster than their dsl. My dlink router had a strong enough range to reach the room directly above where it was set up (I'm on the 1st floor and the other room is on the 3rd). I then took the Encore router to the 3rd floor room and plugged it into a computer through ethernet... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful but inexpensive router, October 6, 2011

I'm using five of these to create wireless service in an office and large auditorium area. They are very easy to set up and have been working well. Nice value when you consider buying a dedicated access point could cost twice as much. I've had two of the 2AN34D units in my house for a while (difference is a 4 db antenna) and had no issues. Have not had to restart the routers, no dropped connections, no issues.

If you want more range, you can buy the 2AN34Ds, or look on some auction sites for inexpensive replacement antennas. I added some 7db antennas, and noted about a 15 db improvement in signal (about $6 investment per unit).

All in all, a lot of functionality in an inexpensive unit.

The first attempt at this did not work. I was able to see the network on my wireless list and could connect to it, but could not access the internet. I am using it as a repeater for the upstairs desk top that has a pci wireless antenna. Today, the second attempt is so far working! Was expecting the worst, but am now very impressed by this very inexpensive router/repeater. I started over after re-setting it and clearing all the internet temp files and cookies. I followed the log in set up, the disk is total garbage so I would not even put it in your computer, may make a nice coaster. Thought about rating this lower because of that, but they caught me on a good day, so I'll keep this at 5 stars for now.
I set up the repeater attaching to my wireless lap top location downstairs. The step by step directions worked great. For the life of me, I felt like I did everything today that I did yesterday, but this time it worked. Some things I have read on other sites and per the... Read more
